Terms of Use
The ground rules for using BlacktopCalc. Straightforward, no hidden traps โ just a clear explanation of what this site is, what it isn't, and how we expect it to be used.
By using BlacktopCalc you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, the exit is easy โ just close the tab. Continuing to use the site means you accept what's written below.
1. What BlacktopCalc is
BlacktopCalc provides free online calculators for estimating asphalt quantities, costs, and related measurements. The tools cover tonnage, cost, driveway, bitumen, paving, overlay, and unit conversion. They are estimation aids โ designed to give you a fast, informed starting point before contacting a supplier or contractor.
All results are generated using published industry formulas, primarily the Asphalt Institute MS-2 standard. They are calculations, not certified engineering specifications.
2. What BlacktopCalc is not
BlacktopCalc is not a licensed engineering service, a materials supplier, a contractor, or a professional advisor. Nothing on this site constitutes professional engineering advice, a purchase contract, or a guarantee of material quantities or project costs. The calculators are tools to help you plan and ask better questions โ they are not a substitute for a site assessment, a licensed contractor's quote, or a structural engineer's specification for critical infrastructure.
3. Free to use
All calculators are free. No account required. No hidden fees. You can use the tools for personal, educational, and commercial estimation purposes. We want professionals, property owners, students, and curious people to all be able to use them without friction.
4. What you must not do
A small number of things are not acceptable:
- Scraping, harvesting, or automatically collecting content from the site in bulk
- Reproducing substantial portions of our written content on other websites without written permission
- Representing our calculator results as certified engineering output or professional specifications to clients, regulatory bodies, or procurement processes
- Attempting to interfere with, overload, or exploit the site's functionality
- Using the site for any purpose that violates applicable law
Quoting a figure from our calculator to a contractor or using it as a ballpark for your own project planning is completely fine. That's exactly what it's for.
5. Accuracy
We work hard to keep the formulas correct and the benchmark data current. We cite our sources and update pricing data regularly. That said, actual asphalt quantities and costs depend on your specific plant mix design, subgrade conditions, site access, regional pricing, and a contractor's assessment. Our results are best-practice estimates โ they are not guaranteed to match what a contractor quotes you or what a plant delivers.
6. Intellectual property
The written content, tool designs, and code on BlacktopCalc are our intellectual property. The underlying calculation formulas โ the Asphalt Institute MS-2, NAPA IS-134, and AASHTO methodologies โ are published standards in the public domain. We built the tools; we didn't invent the math.
If you want to link to BlacktopCalc from another site, that's great and you don't need to ask. If you want to reproduce content at length or embed our tools elsewhere, please get in touch first.
7. No warranty
BlacktopCalc is provided "as is." We make no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose of any result produced by our tools. We do our best โ but we can't guarantee perfection, and you should treat results accordingly.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BlacktopCalc shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of or reliance on our calculator results. If you order 50 tons based on our output and the actual requirement turns out to be 55 tons, that's a real-world variable we can't control. Use the results as a guide, add a sensible waste buffer, and confirm with your supplier.
9. Third-party links
We may link to external resources โ Asphalt Institute publications, NAPA guides, supplier sites. These are provided for reference. We don't control third-party content and accept no responsibility for it.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms as the site evolves. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by applicable law. We have tried to write them in plain English that holds up regardless of jurisdiction โ but if there is ever a dispute, reasonable people should be able to resolve it reasonably.
